Well Pump Repair in Oakland, ME
No water or low pressure? We diagnose well pumps, pressure tanks and switches fast and get your water back.
Well Pump Repair for Oakland Homeowners
Oakland homeowners call RJC Plumbing for well pump repair because we are close by, based in Augusta, and out on Central Maine roads every day — the housing stock and the local permit process are not a mystery to us.
No water, low or surging pressure, or a pump that runs constantly — RJC Plumbing diagnoses and repairs well pumps, pressure tanks, switches and controls for homes on private wells across Augusta and Central Maine.

Signs your well pump or pressure tank needs service
No water at the taps, pressure that surges or drops in the shower, a pump that clicks on and off every few seconds, or a pump that never shuts off. Each points to a different part of the system.
Short-cycling is usually a waterlogged pressure tank. A pump that runs constantly may be a leak in the well line, a bad check valve or a failing pump. No water at all is often the pressure switch or the pump itself.
How do we diagnose a well system?
We check the pressure switch and tank first — they are the most common failures and the least expensive. Then power to the pump, the control box on jet and some submersible systems, and pressure on the well line.
One Augusta-area customer with a failed pressure tank had us on site within 20 minutes and water back in two hours. That is the standard we aim for on no-water calls.
Pressure tank replacement
A pressure tank with a failed bladder makes the pump cycle constantly and shortens its life. We replace it with a correctly sized tank, new tee, gauge, relief valve and pressure switch, and set the air pre-charge to match.
Well pump replacement
When a pump has failed we replace it and the connections, sized to the well depth and household demand. Jet pumps on shallow wells are repaired or replaced above ground, usually in an afternoon.
If the problem is the well itself — a dry well or a collapsed casing — we will tell you straight away and point you to a well driller rather than sell you a pump you do not need.

Oakland's Homes and Plumbing
About 55% of Oakland homes heat with oil and roughly a fifth with propane, so a water heater replacement is typically a tank, tankless or hybrid unit rather than a gas-fired swap, though Summit Natural Gas of Maine does reach parts of town. Our water heater installation team will lay out the options for your fuel and space.
The Town of Oakland’s Code Enforcement Office, at 6 Cascade Mill Road, also serves as the town’s Local Plumbing Inspector — a one-stop shop for both code and plumbing permits. Whatever the job, from a new construction rough-in to an emergency repair, it starts with a free estimate. See all of our service areas.
Family-Owned, Not a Franchise
Oakland homeowners deal directly with RJC Plumbing's own crew — a family business, not a franchise with a call center. The estimate is free, the price is upfront, and there are no hidden fees added after the fact. Getting invited back for the next job is the whole business model.

Codes & Permits for Well Pump Repair in Oakland
In Oakland, plumbing permits come from the Local Plumbing Inspector at the Town of Oakland Code Enforcement Office (6 Cascade Mill Road (physical) / P.O. Box 187 (mailing), Oakland, ME 04963, 207-465-2842). With 6,230 residents, Oakland is required to enforce the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC). Oakland's Shoreland Zoning Ordinance applies within 250 ft of any great pond or river and 75 ft of a stream; per the town's own FAQ, a new structure or septic system on a lake lot must be at least 100 ft horizontal from the high-water mark.
- Well pump replacement in Maine requires a licensee under the Well Drillers and Pump Installers Rules (10-144 CMR Chapter 232), administered by the Maine Water Well Commission, a body within the Maine CDC/DHHS created under 32 M.R.S. Chapter 69-C. maine.gov
- The Maine Plumbers' Examining Board (within the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Department of Professional and Financial Regulation) licenses plumbers statewide and maintains the plumbing rules and laws (Title 32, Chapter 49); day-to-day permit issuance and inspection for a given town is carried out locally by a Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI), who is often the same person as the municipality's Code Enforcement Officer. maine.gov
How RJC Plumbing Handles Well Pump Repair in Oakland
- Where Maine Water Company (Oakland division), wholesaled from Kennebec Water District's lines don't reach in Oakland, homes rely on a private well — when pressure drops or a pump short-cycles, we diagnose which of the three usual parts failed.
- Well pump replacement in Maine has to be done by a licensee under the state's Well Drillers and Pump Installers Rules, and we hold to that standard on every well pump repair job.
- Since about one in ten Maine wells tests high for something the state watches (arsenic, uranium, radon and the like), we bring up water testing whenever we're already out for a well pump repair call — it's a separate step from fixing the pump, but an easy one to add.

Well Pump Repair Questions from Oakland Homeowners
I have no water at all — what should I check before calling?
Check the breaker for the well pump and look at the pressure gauge on the tank. If the breaker is on and the gauge reads zero, call us. Do not keep resetting a breaker that trips; it can damage the pump.
Why does my well pump turn on and off constantly?
Short-cycling is almost always a waterlogged pressure tank with a failed bladder, or one with the wrong air pre-charge. It is a quick diagnosis and a same-day fix in most cases.
Do you replace well pumps or just pressure tanks?
Both. We repair and replace pressure tanks, switches, controls and check valves, and replace failed submersible and jet pumps. Well drilling and casing repair are referred to a well driller.
How long does a pressure tank replacement take?
Typically two to three hours, including draining the system, setting the new tank, switch and gauge, and restoring water.
Can low water pressure be fixed without a new pump?
Often. A clogged sediment filter, an incorrectly set pressure switch, a waterlogged tank or a partly closed valve are all common causes we fix without replacing the pump.
Which areas do you cover for well service?
Augusta, Manchester, Winthrop, Hallowell, Farmingdale, Gardiner, Waterville and the surrounding towns — most of which have homes on private wells.
