How a Fixture Rough-In Works

  1. Cold supply stub-out — capped until the fixture is trimmed out
  2. Hot supply stub-out — capped until the fixture is trimmed out
  3. Shutoff valves — set now, so trim-out is a quick visit
  4. Drain arm — sloped to the branch line, sized to the fixture
  5. Vent — ties into the stack so the trap can not siphon dry

Whether you are remodeling your bathroom, upgrading fixtures, or replacing a tub or shower, our experienced team delivers beautiful results with lasting quality and minimal disruption to your home.

What bathroom plumbing services do we offer in Augusta?

We replace and repair toilets, install tub and shower units, set vanities and faucets, and rough in complete bathrooms for remodels and additions. Every job ends with the fixtures tested and the room left as clean as we found it.

Bathroom remodels are the projects our customers talk about most — from a new toilet and vanity to a full tub-to-shower conversion. We quote a firm price and keep to the schedule we gave you.

Camps around Winthrop, Manchester and the Belgrade Lakes have their own needs: seasonal shut-downs, winterizing, and fixtures that have sat unused all winter. We handle those too.

Should I repair or replace a running toilet?

A running toilet wastes hundreds of gallons a week and is usually a worn flapper, fill valve or flush-valve seal. Those parts are inexpensive, and we replace them on the first visit.

If the bowl is cracked, the base leaks after re-setting, or the toilet is an older high-volume model, replacement makes more sense. We install efficient, comfort-height toilets and haul the old one away.

Tub and shower installation and repair

Leaking tub spouts, shower valves that will not hold temperature, and diverters that send water both ways are quick repairs. We carry cartridges for the common brands found in Central Maine homes.

For full replacements we remove the old unit, correct the drain and supply rough-in, set the new tub or shower, and connect the valve and trim. Tile and surround work is coordinated with your contractor.

Bathroom remodel rough-in and trim-out

On a remodel we come in twice: first to rough in supply, drain and vent lines to the new layout, then after tile and paint to set fixtures and trim. Rough-in work is done to Maine plumbing code and inspected where required.

Moving a toilet or adding a second sink changes the venting, and getting that right prevents slow drains and sewer smells later. Tell us your plan early and we will flag anything that will not work before walls are open.

What does bathroom plumbing cost in Maine?

$300–$1,500

Typical range for a toilet, faucet or shower-valve replacement. Full tub or shower replacements and remodel rough-ins run higher. Every price is confirmed before work starts.

Every job starts with a free, no-obligation estimate — you get the exact price before any work begins.

Bathroom Plumbing: Fixture Installs, Rough-Ins & Common Failures

A bathroom packs a toilet, a tub or shower, and one or two sinks into a small footprint, which means a failure in one fixture often shows up as a symptom in another — a running toilet that spikes the water bill, a shower valve that scalds when someone flushes down the hall, a vanity drain that backs up into the tub. Diagnosing the actual cause, not just the symptom, is most of the job.

Toilet, Vanity & Tub/Shower Installs

A toilet swap is straightforward when the flange underneath is in good shape: a new wax ring or wax-free seal, a level set, and a supply line, usually finished in under two hours. Older homes around Augusta and Hallowell more often have a flange that has cracked or sits below the finished floor after a re-tile, which needs a flange repair or extension before the new toilet can seal properly — we check this before quoting a swap as routine.

Vanity and tub/shower installs are more about what's already behind the wall than what's new. We verify the rough-in valve is rated for the new trim kit (most modern shower valves are not interchangeable trim-for-trim with valves from 15-20 years ago), and that supply lines and the P-trap are in good condition before the new fixture goes on.

Shower Valve Scald Protection

If a shower runs suddenly hot or cold when another fixture in the house turns on, the valve behind the wall is very likely an older two-handle or single-handle valve without pressure-balancing or thermostatic protection, rather than a plumbing defect somewhere else in the house. Anti-scald valves, now standard on new installs, hold water temperature steady by compensating for a pressure drop instead of letting the ratio of hot to cold shift.

Retrofitting an anti-scald valve usually means opening the wall behind the shower control, since the valve body itself has to change, not just the trim. It's a common upgrade to pair with a full bathroom remodel rather than a stand-alone job, for that reason.

Why a Toilet Runs, Rocks, or Leaks at the Base

Common toilet complaints and their usual cause
SymptomUsual causeFix
Tank refills on its own periodicallyFlapper not sealing, letting tank water leak slowly into the bowlFlapper replacement — a five-minute part, but worth doing before it doubles a water bill
Toilet rocks slightly when you sit downWax ring compressed unevenly, or the flange bolts have loosenedReset and shim the toilet, replace the wax seal; check the flange for cracks
Water at the base of the toilet after flushingFailed wax ring seal, or a cracked flange letting water escape under the basePull the toilet, inspect and replace the flange if needed, reseat with a new seal
Weak flush, needs a second flushLow water level in the tank, a partially clogged siphon jet, or an older low-flow model not designed wellAdjust fill level, clean siphon jets, or consider a newer high-efficiency model

Ventilation and Moisture

Bathroom plumbing problems and bathroom moisture problems often get blamed on each other. A bath fan that vents into the attic instead of outside, or isn't run long enough after a shower, causes condensation that can look and smell like a slow plumbing leak. Before we open a wall chasing a suspected leak, we rule out condensation and ventilation as the actual source — it saves an unnecessary repair more often than homeowners expect.

Bathroom Plumbing questions from Augusta homeowners

How long does a toilet replacement take?

About an hour to ninety minutes for a straightforward swap, including a new wax ring, supply line and shut-off valve if needed. We remove and dispose of the old toilet.

Can you convert my tub to a walk-in shower?

Yes. We handle the plumbing side — removing the tub, correcting the drain location, installing the shower valve and drain, and setting a shower base or preparing for a tiled pan. Your contractor handles tile and surround.

Why does my shower lose hot water when someone runs a tap?

Older two-handle valves have no pressure balancing. A modern pressure-balanced or thermostatic valve fixes it, and we can usually install one without opening the wall from the tile side.

Do you install bathroom fixtures I purchased online?

Yes. We install customer-supplied toilets, faucets, vanities and shower trim. We will let you know before you order if a rough-in size or valve type will not fit your existing plumbing.

Do you work on camps and seasonal properties?

Yes. We serve camps around Winthrop, Manchester, the Belgrade Lakes and along the Kennebec — repairs, fixture replacements, and seasonal opening and winterizing.

Is a bathroom plumbing estimate free?

Yes. Estimates are free and no-obligation. For remodels we will look at the space and your plan and give you a firm written price.
