Well Pump Repair in Manchester, ME
No water or low pressure? We diagnose well pumps, pressure tanks and switches fast and get your water back.
Well Pump Repair for Manchester Homeowners
When Manchester homeowners need well pump repair, RJC Plumbing is the local call. We are based in Augusta, a short drive from Manchester, so we get there quickly and already know the homes and permit process in your area.
No water, low or surging pressure, or a pump that runs constantly — RJC Plumbing diagnoses and repairs well pumps, pressure tanks, switches and controls for homes on private wells across Augusta and Central Maine.

Signs your well pump or pressure tank needs service
No water at the taps, pressure that surges or drops in the shower, a pump that clicks on and off every few seconds, or a pump that never shuts off. Each points to a different part of the system.
Short-cycling is usually a waterlogged pressure tank. A pump that runs constantly may be a leak in the well line, a bad check valve or a failing pump. No water at all is often the pressure switch or the pump itself.
How do we diagnose a well system?
We check the pressure switch and tank first — they are the most common failures and the least expensive. Then power to the pump, the control box on jet and some submersible systems, and pressure on the well line.
One Augusta-area customer with a failed pressure tank had us on site within 20 minutes and water back in two hours. That is the standard we aim for on no-water calls.
Pressure tank replacement
A pressure tank with a failed bladder makes the pump cycle constantly and shortens its life. We replace it with a correctly sized tank, new tee, gauge, relief valve and pressure switch, and set the air pre-charge to match.
Well pump replacement
When a pump has failed we replace it and the connections, sized to the well depth and household demand. Jet pumps on shallow wells are repaired or replaced above ground, usually in an afternoon.
If the problem is the well itself — a dry well or a collapsed casing — we will tell you straight away and point you to a well driller rather than sell you a pump you do not need.

Why Manchester Chooses RJC Plumbing
- We run trucks through Manchester regularly, not as an occasional out-of-area trip
- An honest diagnosis and a firm number, not a pitch for extras
- Same-day service often available for urgent calls
- Licensed and insured Master Plumber — call and you will reach a real person, not a call center
Manchester's Homes and Plumbing
The Greater Augusta Utility District supplies water to parts of Manchester from groundwater wells, and carries wastewater to Augusta through its Monmouth–Winthrop–Manchester trunk line. Homes beyond those lines depend on private wells. When the water stops, sputters or the pump will not shut off, our well pump repair service checks the pump, pressure tank and pressure switch and fixes what failed.
Maine CDC estimates about one in ten Maine wells has too much arsenic, uranium, radon or other harmful chemicals and recommends regular testing. Hard well water also shortens the life of a tank, so a sediment filter or softener ahead of a new water heater is often worth it. About one in five Manchester homes heats with bottled gas, which can also fuel a tankless water heater if the supply and venting are right.
Family-Owned, Not a Franchise
RJC Plumbing has been a family-owned, Augusta-based business since 2022, and Manchester has been part of our territory the whole time. Every job gets the same standard: an upfront price, quality parts, and a straight answer about what actually needs fixing. That is how a small, local plumbing company keeps its customers.

In Manchester, plumbing permits come from the Local Plumbing Inspector at the Manchester Code Enforcement Office (Manchester Town Office, 12 Readfield Road (physical) / P.O. Box 18 (mailing), Manchester, ME 04351, (207) 622-1894). With 2,456 residents, Manchester is under the 4,000-resident line at which Maine requires a town to enforce MUBEC. Manchester's total land area is 21.39 sq mi of land and 1.23 sq mi of water (22.62 sq mi total), per the town's Wikipedia entry.
- Well pump replacement in Maine requires a licensee under the Well Drillers and Pump Installers Rules (10-144 CMR Chapter 232), administered by the Maine Water Well Commission, a body within the Maine CDC/DHHS created under 32 M.R.S. Chapter 69-C. maine.gov
- The Maine Plumbers' Examining Board (within the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Department of Professional and Financial Regulation) licenses plumbers statewide and maintains the plumbing rules and laws (Title 32, Chapter 49); day-to-day permit issuance and inspection for a given town is carried out locally by a Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI), who is often the same person as the municipality's Code Enforcement Officer. maine.gov
How RJC Plumbing Handles Well Pump Repair in Manchester
- A lot of Manchester homes depend on a private well rather than a public water line, so a well pump repair call is usually one of three parts: the pump itself, the pressure tank, or the pressure switch.
- Well pump replacement in Maine has to be done by a licensee under the state's Well Drillers and Pump Installers Rules, and we hold to that standard on every well pump repair job.
- Maine CDC estimates roughly one in ten private wells statewide has too much arsenic, uranium, radon or another harmful substance, and recommends yearly bacteria/nitrate testing plus a broader test every three to five years — worth doing alongside a pump repair, not instead of it.

Well Pump Repair Questions from Manchester Homeowners
I have no water at all — what should I check before calling?
Check the breaker for the well pump and look at the pressure gauge on the tank. If the breaker is on and the gauge reads zero, call us. Do not keep resetting a breaker that trips; it can damage the pump.
Why does my well pump turn on and off constantly?
Short-cycling is almost always a waterlogged pressure tank with a failed bladder, or one with the wrong air pre-charge. It is a quick diagnosis and a same-day fix in most cases.
Do you replace well pumps or just pressure tanks?
Both. We repair and replace pressure tanks, switches, controls and check valves, and replace failed submersible and jet pumps. Well drilling and casing repair are referred to a well driller.
How long does a pressure tank replacement take?
Typically two to three hours, including draining the system, setting the new tank, switch and gauge, and restoring water.
Can low water pressure be fixed without a new pump?
Often. A clogged sediment filter, an incorrectly set pressure switch, a waterlogged tank or a partly closed valve are all common causes we fix without replacing the pump.
Which areas do you cover for well service?
Augusta, Manchester, Winthrop, Hallowell, Farmingdale, Gardiner, Waterville and the surrounding towns — most of which have homes on private wells.
