Drain Cleaning in Manchester, ME

Clogged drains cleared and toilets and faucets fixed — often the same day — by a local plumber who answers the phone.

Drain Cleaning for Manchester Homeowners

When Manchester homeowners need drain cleaning, RJC Plumbing is the local call. We are based in Augusta, a short drive from Manchester, so we get there quickly and already know the homes and permit process in your area.

Clogged kitchen sink, slow shower, backed-up toilet or a main line that will not drain — RJC Plumbing clears drains and repairs the toilets and faucets behind them, often the same day, for homes across Augusta and Central Maine.

Which drains do we clear?

Kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, tubs and showers, floor drains, washing-machine standpipes and the main sewer line. If a drain is slow, gurgles or backs up, we clear it and check what caused it.

A single slow fixture is a local clog. Several drains backing up at once — or sewage in the lowest drain — points to the main line, and we treat that as a priority call.

Why do drains keep clogging?

Kitchen lines clog with grease and food; bathroom lines with hair and soap scum; main lines with roots, a belly in the pipe, or a section of old cast iron that has scaled inside. Clearing the clog without fixing the cause means we will be back.

When a line clogs repeatedly we tell you why and what it would take to fix it permanently — sometimes a proper cleanout, sometimes replacing a section of pipe.

Toilet repair and replacement

Running toilets, weak flushes, toilets that rock or leak at the base, and clogs a plunger cannot reach are all quick calls. Flappers, fill valves and wax rings are on the truck.

If the toilet is cracked or an old high-volume model, we will quote a replacement — installed, tested, and the old one hauled away.

Faucet and fixture repair

Dripping faucets, shower valves that will not shut off, and outdoor spigots that leak all fall under the same call. Most are a cartridge or seal; we carry the common ones and replace the fixture if it is beyond repair.

Please skip the chemical drain cleaner before we arrive. It rarely clears a real blockage, damages older pipe and seals, and makes the line hazardous to open.

Manchester's Homes and Plumbing

Year-round lake houses often have supply lines in crawlspaces and bathrooms added long after the original cottage was built. If you are converting a camp to a year-round home, our bathroom plumbing and kitchen plumbing services cover the new fixtures and the supply and drain work behind them.

The Greater Augusta Utility District supplies water to parts of Manchester from groundwater wells, and carries wastewater to Augusta through its Monmouth–Winthrop–Manchester trunk line. Homes beyond those lines depend on private wells. When the water stops, sputters or the pump will not shut off, our well pump repair service checks the pump, pressure tank and pressure switch and fixes what failed.

Family-Owned, Not a Franchise

RJC Plumbing is a family-owned company based in Augusta, serving Manchester since 2022. The estimate is free, the price is upfront, and there are no hidden fees added after the fact. Getting invited back for the next job is the whole business model.

Codes & Permits for Drain Cleaning in Manchester

In Manchester, plumbing permits come from the Local Plumbing Inspector at the Manchester Code Enforcement Office (Manchester Town Office, 12 Readfield Road (physical) / P.O. Box 18 (mailing), Manchester, ME 04351, (207) 622-1894). With 2,456 residents, Manchester is under the 4,000-resident line at which Maine requires a town to enforce MUBEC. Manchester has shoreline on Cobbosseecontee Lake, Cobbosseecontee Stream, and Hutchinson Pond; the Cobbossee shoreline is described as a popular central-Maine recreation area.

  • Statewide septic-system design and permitting is governed by the Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules (10-144 CMR Chapter 241), administered by the Maine CDC's Subsurface Wastewater Unit; amendments effective September 23, 2023 added mandatory septic-tank risers and updated soil-fill age criteria. Permits use the HHE-200/204/211 state forms and are enforced locally by Local Plumbing Inspectors. www1.maine.gov
  • The Maine Plumbers' Examining Board (within the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Department of Professional and Financial Regulation) licenses plumbers statewide and maintains the plumbing rules and laws (Title 32, Chapter 49); day-to-day permit issuance and inspection for a given town is carried out locally by a Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI), who is often the same person as the municipality's Code Enforcement Officer. maine.gov

How RJC Plumbing Handles Drain Cleaning in Manchester

  • Manchester's public sewer runs through Manchester Sanitary District, with treatment at GAUD's plant in Augusta; the private lateral out to that main stays the homeowner's responsibility, and that's usually where a drain cleaning call starts.
  • 26% of Manchester's homes went up before 1960 — the cast-iron and clay-lateral era, and exactly the kind of line that cracks at the joints and lets roots in.
  • If a septic system needs replacing, Maine requires a licensed Site Evaluator's HHE-200 design and a town permit under the state's Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules; we coordinate both parts.

Drain Cleaning Questions from Manchester Homeowners

Can you clear a clogged drain the same day?

Often, yes. Drain backups — especially a main line — go to the front of the schedule. Call (207) 549-0064 in the morning and we will do our best to be there today.

Is a chemical drain cleaner safe to try first?

We recommend against it. Caustic cleaners damage older pipes and seals, rarely clear a real blockage, and make the job hazardous for the plumber who opens the line. A plunger is fine; if that fails, call.

How do I know if the main sewer line is clogged?

More than one drain backing up, gurgling toilets when a sink drains, or water coming up in a basement floor drain or shower are the signs. Stop running water and call.

Do you repair toilets or only replace them?

Both. Flappers, fill valves, flush valves, wax rings and supply lines are repaired on the spot. We replace a toilet when it is cracked, leaking at the tank bolts, or an old model that keeps clogging.

Can you fix a dripping faucet without replacing it?

Usually. Most drips are a worn cartridge or seat washer. If the faucet body is corroded or parts are no longer available, we will quote a replacement.

Do you clean drains for homes on septic systems?

Yes. Many homes outside Augusta are on septic. We clear the house drain lines; if the problem is the septic tank or leach field itself we will tell you so you can call a septic contractor.
