Drain Cleaning in Waterville, ME

Clogged drains cleared and toilets and faucets fixed — often the same day — by a local plumber who answers the phone.

Drain Cleaning for Waterville Homeowners

Waterville sits within the territory RJC Plumbing covers out of Augusta every week — so a call for drain cleaning gets a plumber who already knows the local housing and permit process, not a first-timer.

Clogged kitchen sink, slow shower, backed-up toilet or a main line that will not drain — RJC Plumbing clears drains and repairs the toilets and faucets behind them, often the same day, for homes across Augusta and Central Maine.

Which drains do we clear?

Kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, tubs and showers, floor drains, washing-machine standpipes and the main sewer line. If a drain is slow, gurgles or backs up, we clear it and check what caused it.

A single slow fixture is a local clog. Several drains backing up at once — or sewage in the lowest drain — points to the main line, and we treat that as a priority call.

Why do drains keep clogging?

Kitchen lines clog with grease and food; bathroom lines with hair and soap scum; main lines with roots, a belly in the pipe, or a section of old cast iron that has scaled inside. Clearing the clog without fixing the cause means we will be back.

When a line clogs repeatedly we tell you why and what it would take to fix it permanently — sometimes a proper cleanout, sometimes replacing a section of pipe.

Toilet repair and replacement

Running toilets, weak flushes, toilets that rock or leak at the base, and clogs a plunger cannot reach are all quick calls. Flappers, fill valves and wax rings are on the truck.

If the toilet is cracked or an old high-volume model, we will quote a replacement — installed, tested, and the old one hauled away.

Faucet and fixture repair

Dripping faucets, shower valves that will not shut off, and outdoor spigots that leak all fall under the same call. Most are a cartridge or seal; we carry the common ones and replace the fixture if it is beyond repair.

Please skip the chemical drain cleaner before we arrive. It rarely clears a real blockage, damages older pipe and seals, and makes the line hazardous to open.

Why Waterville Chooses RJC Plumbing

  • Licensed and insured Master Plumber, with a real person answering the phone

Waterville's Homes and Plumbing

Most of the city drinks water from the Kennebec Water District, which has drawn from China Lake since 1905 and serves more than 20,000 people in Waterville, Winslow, Fairfield, Benton and Vassalboro. The district finished a review of its service lines in 2025 and reports no lead pipes in its system, but that inventory covers the district’s side. Old fittings and solder inside a house are a separate question, and one we look at whenever we open up an older supply line.

Wastewater is collected by the Waterville Sewerage District and treated at the Kennebec Sanitary Treatment District plant in Waterville, which has run since 1971. Where the city main is fine but the house line is not, the fix is on your side of the connection, and that is the part a plumber handles.

Family-Owned, Not a Franchise

RJC Plumbing is a family-owned company based in Augusta, serving Waterville since 2022. The estimate is free, the price is upfront, and there are no hidden fees added after the fact. We would rather earn the next call than upsell this one.

Codes & Permits for Drain Cleaning in Waterville

In Waterville, plumbing permits come from the Local Plumbing Inspector at the City of Waterville Code Enforcement Office (7 College Avenue, Waterville, ME 04901, 207-680-4208). With 15,828 residents, Waterville is required to enforce the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC). Waterville sits on the west bank of the Kennebec River, just below Ticonic Falls, which historically made it the head of navigation and shipping on the river.

  • Statewide septic-system design and permitting is governed by the Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules (10-144 CMR Chapter 241), administered by the Maine CDC's Subsurface Wastewater Unit; amendments effective September 23, 2023 added mandatory septic-tank risers and updated soil-fill age criteria. Permits use the HHE-200/204/211 state forms and are enforced locally by Local Plumbing Inspectors. www1.maine.gov
  • The Maine Plumbers' Examining Board (within the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Department of Professional and Financial Regulation) licenses plumbers statewide and maintains the plumbing rules and laws (Title 32, Chapter 49); day-to-day permit issuance and inspection for a given town is carried out locally by a Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI), who is often the same person as the municipality's Code Enforcement Officer. maine.gov

How RJC Plumbing Handles Drain Cleaning in Waterville

  • Waterville's public sewer runs through Waterville Sewerage District with Kennebec Sanitary Treatment District, with treatment at the Kennebec Sanitary Treatment District plant in Waterville; the private lateral out to that main stays the homeowner's responsibility, and that's usually where a drain cleaning call starts.
  • With 52% of Waterville's housing dating to before 1960, a fair share of the laterals we camera here are original cast iron or clay tile.
  • If a septic system needs replacing, Maine requires a licensed Site Evaluator's HHE-200 design and a town permit under the state's Subsurface Wastewater Disposal Rules; we coordinate both parts.

Drain Cleaning Questions from Waterville Homeowners

Can you clear a clogged drain the same day?

Often, yes. Drain backups — especially a main line — go to the front of the schedule. Call (207) 549-0064 in the morning and we will do our best to be there today.

Is a chemical drain cleaner safe to try first?

We recommend against it. Caustic cleaners damage older pipes and seals, rarely clear a real blockage, and make the job hazardous for the plumber who opens the line. A plunger is fine; if that fails, call.

How do I know if the main sewer line is clogged?

More than one drain backing up, gurgling toilets when a sink drains, or water coming up in a basement floor drain or shower are the signs. Stop running water and call.

Do you repair toilets or only replace them?

Both. Flappers, fill valves, flush valves, wax rings and supply lines are repaired on the spot. We replace a toilet when it is cracked, leaking at the tank bolts, or an old model that keeps clogging.

Can you fix a dripping faucet without replacing it?

Usually. Most drips are a worn cartridge or seat washer. If the faucet body is corroded or parts are no longer available, we will quote a replacement.

Do you clean drains for homes on septic systems?

Yes. Many homes outside Augusta are on septic. We clear the house drain lines; if the problem is the septic tank or leach field itself we will tell you so you can call a septic contractor.
