New Construction in Auburn, ME
Complete rough-in and trim-out for new homes and additions across Central Maine — on schedule and to code.
New Construction for Auburn Homeowners
For new construction in Auburn, homeowners turn to RJC Plumbing: a family-owned, Augusta-based crew that already knows the area's homes, water and sewer setups, and how the local code office works.
RJC Plumbing provides complete plumbing system installations for new construction projects across Central Maine, coordinating with builders to ensure every pipe, fixture, and connection is installed right the first time.

What does our new construction plumbing include?
We install the full plumbing system for new homes, additions and garage apartments: underground drain and water lines, above-ground drain, waste and vent piping, supply lines, the water heater, and fixture trim-out.
We also plumb for hydronic heat — boilers and baseboard — when the job calls for it, and set well pressure tanks and water treatment on homes outside municipal water. One trade, one point of contact for the builder.
Our customers include general contractors building in Augusta, Manchester, Winthrop and the surrounding towns, and owner-builders who need a plumber that returns calls and shows up on the day promised.
How does the new construction process work?
Underground: after the foundation is in and before the slab, we set the below-grade drain lines, cleanouts and water service entry. Photos are taken before backfill.
Rough-in: once the frame is up, we run supply and drain-waste-vent lines, stub out every fixture location, set tub and shower units, and pressure-test for inspection.
Trim-out: after drywall, paint and cabinets, we return to set toilets, faucets, sinks, the water heater and any remaining fixtures, then test every connection.
Why do venting and pipe sizing matter?
Undersized drains and missing vents are behind most "the new house already has plumbing problems" calls. We size lines by fixture units and lay out venting so every trap holds its seal.
Maine winters also decide where lines can run. We keep supply piping out of exterior walls and unheated spaces, and insulate where a line has no other route.
Working with builders and homeowners
We review the plans early, flag conflicts with framing or HVAC before they are built, and keep to the schedule so the next trade is not waiting on us.
For owner-builders we walk you through fixture selection and rough-in dimensions so what you order fits what we installed.

Why Auburn Chooses RJC Plumbing
- We know Auburn's housing and infrastructure because we work here routinely
- A written, upfront price — no surprises on the invoice
- Most urgent calls get worked into the schedule the same day
- Licensed and insured Master Plumber — call and you will reach a real person, not a call center
Auburn's Homes and Plumbing
The Little Androscoggin River also runs through Auburn in addition to the Androscoggin itself, so low-lying property near either river can see high groundwater after a heavy storm. Our sump pump installation work covers sizing a pump to the pit and adding a battery backup, and well pump repair covers any Auburn property still on a private well.
About 51% of Auburn homes heat primarily with oil and roughly 22% with utility gas, so a water heater replacement is usually a tank, tankless or hybrid heat-pump unit matched to whichever fuel the house already runs. Our water heater installation team will go over the options and the cost trade-offs.
Family-Owned, Not a Franchise
Auburn homeowners deal directly with RJC Plumbing's own crew — a family business, not a franchise with a call center. Every job gets the same standard: an upfront price, quality parts, and a straight answer about what actually needs fixing. Doing the job right the first time is how we keep a customer for years, not just one visit.

Codes & Permits for New Construction in Auburn
In Auburn, plumbing permits come from the Local Plumbing Inspector at the Planning, Permitting & Code, City of Auburn (60 Court Street, Auburn, ME 04210 (Auburn City Hall), (207) 333-6600). With 24,061 residents, Auburn is required to enforce the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC). Auburn's water utility (Auburn Water District, drawing on Lake Auburn) supplies both Auburn and Lewiston, and the city coordinates with the Lake Auburn Watershed Commission on development near the source lake.
- Buried water service lines and other freeze-sensitive plumbing in new construction are expected to go in below the local frost line under the International Residential Code provisions Maine adopted via MUBEC (2021 IRC, effective April 7, 2025); the exact burial depth follows local frost-depth practice rather than one statewide number. www11.maine.gov
- New-construction plumbing in Maine towns is inspected in at least two stages under the local code office's process: a rough-in inspection before walls are closed in during framing, and a final/occupancy inspection once fixtures are connected. townofnaples.org
- The Maine Plumbers' Examining Board (within the Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation, Department of Professional and Financial Regulation) licenses plumbers statewide and maintains the plumbing rules and laws (Title 32, Chapter 49); day-to-day permit issuance and inspection for a given town is carried out locally by a Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI), who is often the same person as the municipality's Code Enforcement Officer. maine.gov
How RJC Plumbing Handles New Construction in Auburn
- We rough in supply and drain lines to pass Auburn's framing-stage inspection, then come back for the final once fixtures are set — the two-stage process most Maine code offices run.
- Buried water service gets set below the local frost line, per the 2021 residential code Maine adopted for new construction — we build to local frost-depth practice, not a guess.
- Auburn's population (24,061) puts it above the threshold where Maine requires full building-and-energy-code enforcement, which runs alongside the plumbing permit on a new build.
- Scheduling both inspections with Planning, Permitting & Code, City of Auburn is on us — you get a straight answer on when the next stage of a new construction job can move.

New Construction Questions from Auburn Homeowners
Do you work with general contractors or directly with homeowners?
Both. Most of our new-construction work comes through builders, but we also work directly with owner-builders and homeowners managing an addition.
Can you quote from a set of plans?
Yes. Send the plans and fixture schedule and we will return a written quote covering underground, rough-in and trim-out, with allowances noted where fixtures are not yet selected.
Do you handle the plumbing inspections?
We schedule and are present for the rough-in and final plumbing inspections required by the town, and we correct anything the inspector flags.
Do you install boilers and radiant or baseboard heat?
Yes. We install boilers, hydronic baseboard and the piping for radiant systems as part of a new build or addition.
What about homes on a well?
We set the pressure tank, pressure switch and any water treatment equipment and tie the well line into the house. Well drilling itself is done by a well driller.
How far in advance should we book?
Call once you have a foundation date. Underground and rough-in have to fit between other trades, and a few weeks of notice keeps your build on schedule.
